When Freedom Cried

The cruel sunshine, 
On a dark day, 
When blood is spilled, 
And the heart is gray. 

When men are killed, 
For what they say, 
And women die, 
For riding trains.

And people cheer, 
And praise the day, 
For the blood, 
The gunman made, 

Yet still the sun, 
Will cast no shade, 
It shines along, 
The path it takes. 

But our path, 
Is not as clear, 
In days of death, 
And blood and fear, 

Do we repent? 
Or do we cheer? 
The choice is ours, 
The time is near. 

A world of violence, 
A world of blood,
Where men are silenced, 
By blasting guns. 

Or a world of peace,
Where we stand, 
And hold our ground, 
To the last man,

Against the beasts,
With evil plans,
Who gnash their teeth, 
And throw their hands, – 

The wolves are here,
The time is now, 
To make our move,
And cast them out. 

For if we don’t, 
More blood will spill, 
Until our tongues, 
At last stand still.

And in our silence, 
The sun will still shine,
As it did today, 
To cruelly remind 

Us of that day, 
When our voices died, 
When violence won, 
And freedom cried.
