The Plot Against America’s Intelligence
"Don't tell me you're innocent because it insults my intelligence"
“No, don’t tell me you’re innocent, because it insults my intelligence, and it makes me very angry.”
– Michael Corleone to Carlo, Godfather Part 1
This morning, as I read the Wall Street Journal piece about President Biden’s mental acuity, I found myself enraged.
I was not enraged that the president of the United States has been mentally unfit to lead for many years now, nor was I enraged that the entirety of his staff, supporters, and party officials were involved in the cover-up, nor was I enraged that he is still in office, even now with the story finally breaking.
I was enraged at how many people have been out and out nasty to me for simply pointing this out.
Biden’s presidential unfitness is the biggest cover-up of my lifetime. It captured and corrupted dozens of institutions, many of which had been sacred bastions of truth, and it has forever damaged the trust and faith that the American people place in their president.
They say that, if you want people to believe you, you have to be in the habit of telling the truth.
Every single person who, at some point in the past four years, gave their word and support to Biden’s mental fitness has lost all credibility.
Accountability matters, and no one has been held accountable for this cover-up.
But that seems to be by design.
None of the people involved seem to think that they did anything wrong.
In fact, as recently as 6 months ago, the people pushing this farce were so convinced of their rightness that they were willing to push it for another four years!
Remember, Biden was still running for re-election until last June.
That means that everyone in his orbit knew, and they still let him proceed with his re-election campaign.
Imagine if he had won.
What then?
The staffers who had been running the country behind the scenes and enabling the cover-up would have continued to run the country for another four years.
They thought they could get away with a Weekend at Biden’s presidency for eight years.
The real damage of this cover-up, though, is on the ground-level.
For the past four years, the media has been pushing the lie that Biden was capable and competent, and they claimed that anyone who said otherwise was a right-wing crank.
Simply pointing out Biden’s less-than-impressive performances was enough to earn the ire and vitriol of the MSNBC crowd.
A collective reckoning with the truth is overdue—not just for me, but for all who dared to question the prevailing narrative.
The Biden presidency was a farce, and the democrats conscripted millions of their supporters to maintain it.
And those conscripts were just as victimized by this cover-up.
While much of Biden’s incompetency was obvious, there were legions of trusted Americans who came to his defense everyday.
The media had always been biased, but they had never gone so far as to cover-up something as completely as this.
And even the media might not have known – afterall, no one was allowed to speak to or interview Biden for years.
So while I am still angry and hurt with all of the people I know personally who engaged in this denialism, I understand where they were coming from.
Everyone was a victim of the plot against America’s intelligence. We were duped by the people who were supposed to tell us the truth, and they turned our faith in them into a mockery.
Anyone who threatened the party narrative was to be socially shot on the spot.
I was called a right-wing crank for pointing out the fact that Biden never did interviews, I was called a misogynist for pointing out the fact that Harris was the only Democratic presidential candidate ever anointed without winning a primary, and I was called an idiot for saying that Biden was not working hard enough to bring the hostages home.
And I believe I am owed an apology from everyone involved in silencing dissenting opinions.
The most important right that anyone in a democratic society has is the right to think for themselves, but, for the past four years, the left has been doing everything in their power to undermine and belittle that right.
It is not as though I have been told that I cannot think for myself or that I am not allowed to – rather, I have been mocked for doing so.
I have been called every manner of nasty name and hurtful epithet imaginable for simply saying what I believed to be the truth.
And rather than challenge my ideas or refute my points, I was belittled and degraded.
I have a particularly unpleasant memory of a dinner I had with three friends. I believe it was sushi, or maybe ramen, but it was a nice dinner, one I was looking forward to.
It was in 2021, and I made the prediction that if Gavin Newsom won the recall election, Donald Trump would be the next president.
My argument was simple – Gavin Newsom’s government had basically bankrupted California and turned the state into something of a sinkhole, and, if he was still in power during the general election, everyone would see what democratic leadership had done in California, and they would all vote Republican instead.
Not only was my argument reasonable, but it was also correct, validated and vindicated by history.
However, instead of a discussion of my points, what proceeded was a 45-minute long lecture from all three of them about how the recall election was a republican scheme that had no basis in reality.
It was humiliating.
Three people I cared about on a personal level were treating me like a political punching bag because I had the audacity to tell them the truth as I saw it.
What should have been a thoughtful discussion turned into a one-sided dismissal of my perspective, making me feel more isolated than understood.
I did not lose the argument, only my appetite.
They successfully beat me into submission, just like the party elites successfully beat the anti-Biden voices into submission.
What struck me most about that dinner wasn’t just the sting of personal humiliation, but how emblematic it was of a larger trend. My friends’ unwillingness to engage with my arguments mirrored the broader climate of political discourse at the time — one where dissent was not debated but dismissed, and questioning the prevailing narrative was met with hostility rather than curiosity. This wasn’t just about me; it was a reflection of a society that has become increasingly intolerant of intellectual diversity and uncomfortable truths.
This experience taught me the same lesson that my political betters had been trying to get me to learn for years – keep your mouth shut.
I felt really bad because it was so obvious that the Biden administration was an ongoing disaster that was going to erode all of the progress that liberal politics had made, but no one wanted to hear it.
It felt like everyone I knew was a part of this great conspiracy, but it was just a conspiracy against the truth.
Once upon a time, people believed that the president of the United States ought to be one of the if not the sharpest person in the world.
It is a hard job, and I don’t want anyone doing it who is not absolutely at the top of their game.
People did not think he had the intellectual chops for the job the first two times he ran for the job, but suddenly he’s running against Donald Trump and he becomes the wisest man in all the land.
The past four years have done more to lower our intellectual and political standards than I think anyone realizes.
In one election cycle, we went from evaluating a candidate’s political acumen to debating their mental acuity.
But who was this great conspiracy against? What was the end goal? What was the plan?
It was against our intelligence.
Intelligence is the biological faculty human beings developed to discern between truth and falsehood – it is a survival mechanism.
It is so innate to us that it requires hundreds and hundreds of hours of indoctrination and habituation to get someone to act against their own intelligence, and that is exactly what this plot has done.
Anyone who has seen Biden do anything in the past four years has known that he was not performing at a very high level, which means that everyone who denied his decline were disbelieving their own intelligence.
In fact, I would say the defining feature in the politics of my life has been intellectual denial.
The truth simply does not matter anymore.
I often find myself wondering if any of the people who were so vicious to me in the past will ever apologize, but I doubt it.
I keep replaying this image in my head.
Biden is on vacation, eating an ice cream cone, when an aide comes over to him to tell him that 6 of the hostages, including the American citizen Hersh, were executed by Hamas.
Biden takes a lick of his ice cream, looks up at his aide and says, “what hostages?”
The hostages have been in captivity for over 450 days – how many of those days do you think Biden was aware of?
This is not a partisan issue because this affects every American in this generation and for generations to come.
The credibility of those who defended Biden’s mental fitness has been severely undermined.
Sadly, the damage has been done.
All that remains is whether or not anyone involved will take any accountability for what has happened.
As time goes on, the real damage of this cover-up will only become clearer, and if the people behind it do not take any accountability for this plot against America’s intelligence, they will never earn back the public trust.
The only way forward is with accountability and honesty. Anyone, from the top of the political food chain to the bottom, who has been nasty to those who had the audacity to question these narratives, should apologize.
Starting with the Democratic leadership. Everyone who knew that Biden was too feeble to lead must apologize and resign. It is the only way to begin these things anew.
Truth and reconciliation.
But before there can be reconciliation, there must be truth.

Similar to Tim Walz when asked about the executed hostages while drinking a milkshake.
